BEST PRACTICES FOR MAHSEER FISHING
Following the Mahseer Trust’s guidelines; here are two best practices you should consider during your next Mahseer fishing adventure.
- Single Barbless Hooks Reduces Stress to Mahseer. Get over your stereotypes of single barbless hooks. They are as effective if not more than an a barbed hook. They are safe. Most importantly, they save THE FISH OF YOUR DREAMS precious seconds if not more, minimising air-exposure and additional trauma while handling before releasing. Key to the healthy recovery of a fish after being released.
- Minimising Air Exposure. Mahseer have HUGE amounts of outer body slime. Bringing them out of the water increases chances of these powerful fish flopping out of your hands and onto rocks. When possible, give the fish of your dreams respect by entering the water as you prepare to photograph and release her. It’s always best to handle fish with wet hands before lifting just enough above the water for a quick pictures before releasing.
